We got the drinking fountain installed in time for the SLAM festival. It looks fantastic!
& it is functional! Much love all around. Still have some of the supporters tiles to engrave and install. It is a perfect addition to a great park in the middle of a hot hot summer.

This is how it looks in my backyard. The granite tiles are available for supporters to purchase & will be engraved. The foundation is ready & I am on schedule to install next week.
This is the first quarter of a 10' (3m) diameter base for a drinking fountain that will be installed in a local park. I am pre-casting the pebble-mosaic-concrete slabs off site. They will cure nice & slowly & then the whole installation can go in at once, in late july/early august. Which is why you haven't heard from me lately...
This was a lovely 5th grade legacy project with the students at Longfellow school in Bozeman.
Facilitated by Salal Huber-McGee (r), the kids made tiles which were then cast in bronze & formed into the base by Mitch Billis (l). I made a few ceramic tiles (mostly birds & fish) & helped them mosaic the globe; We all had a great time & think the result is brilliant! Check it out on South Tracy, in front of the south entrance. I built a hanging system so pieces can be easily changed around. travertine with stained glass inlay. smalti.
When I learned about grizzlys and their quest for cutworm moths on the high mountain slopes of the Northern Rockies towards the end of summer, I wanted to illustrate the process. I wonder how the big bears dream of mothfood? I made the ceramic moths & started this many years ago. Still love the idea ; not really this piece so much. 12"x20" The bench is finished. It has been a great project. I can't wait to see it (& get photos of it ) in its new home. The Book Bench is the result of a private commission for a piece of furniture to celebrate a lifelong educator's love for books. It will be placed in a private garden to encourage the reader or writer to think and dream. The client chose some of her favourite Montana authors, both well-known, and local to the small mountain community in which she lives. It has been fantastic to bring ideas of art, literacy and community together in this project. For the next two weeks the Book Bench can be viewed in the McPhie Cabinetry showroom at 435 E. Main, Bozeman. The Thirsty Lake Tileworks studio is also at this location. We will be open for ArtWalk on Friday the 9th of September. Come meet the artist and check out this great piece before it is delivered to its final home. |
