When I learned about grizzlys and their quest for cutworm moths on the high mountain slopes of the Northern Rockies towards the end of summer, I wanted to illustrate the process. I wonder how the big bears dream of mothfood? I made the ceramic moths & started this many years ago. Still love the idea ; not really this piece so much. 12"x20" 8 1/2" x 14" The shape is from a very old Maori carving believed to be Te Uenuku, the rainbow god. Smalti is tough to photograph. The highlights are gold tiles that are more subtle in reality. I love the colours & think I will play around with some more colour studies.
